“Confession heals, confession justifies, confession grants pardon of sin, all hope consists in confession; in confession there is a chance for mercy.”

-St. Isidore of Seville

  Five Steps to a Good Confession

1.   Examine your conscience (that is, recall your sins since your last
    confession).
2.  Be sincerely sorry for your sins.
3.  Resolve to amend your life.
4.  Confess your sins to a priest.
5.  Do the penance the priest assigns you.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee,
and I detest all of my sins because I dread the
loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell;
but most of all because they offend Thee,
my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace,
to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life.
Amen.

I treasure Your Word in my heart, so that I may not sin against You.  Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your Laws.

Psalm 119: 11-12
